Greater Nevada Focuses on Employee Training and Recognition
(CARSON CITY, Nevada) November 15, 2010— Last month Greater Nevada’s approximately 175 employees, some as far as 440 miles away, gathered in Reno, Nevada for the credit union’s annual employee training and appreciation event. The event was a culmination of a year-long process that provides every employee an opportunity to grow both personally and professionally while contributing to the organization’s overall success.
Throughout the year, individual branches and departments conduct regular staff meetings to remain focused on the organization’s key strategic objectives. In addition, organization-wide teamwork is nurtured through monthly “HI-FI” meetings in which senior and executive managers visit each of Greater Nevada’s branch locations to share strategic plan updates, get ideas and feedback from employees for continuous improvement, and ensure ongoing collaboration at all levels. Other programs include ongoing education through the credit union’s training department to keep employees current on Greater Nevada’s technology and processes.
As the annual training and recognition event approaches, employees are invited to nominate co-workers who have demonstrated exemplary member service, inspirational teamwork, constructive creativity, or overall dedication to Greater Nevada’s core values. Nominating criteria is tied directly to the credit union’s internal C.A.R.E. program, which stands for Competence, Attitude, Relationship building and Effectiveness. All nominations are reviewed by the executive management team, which also selects the winners for each category. Winners are announced during the event.
“Recognition is an integral part of our culture,” said Wally Murray, President/CEO for Greater Nevada, “The awards portion of the annual training and recognition event is a way for us to thank those who have contributed to our success. It’s also an opportunity for everyone to get together and celebrate teamwork.”
The annual event accomplishes several missions. First, it ensures that employees from all of the credit union’s northern Nevada branches and offices have an opportunity to meet face-to-face. Second, it enables all levels of staff to collectively discuss the credit union’s goals and how each employee plays a key role in achieving them. Third, it creates a relaxing and entertaining atmosphere for employees to celebrate accomplishments by fellow co-workers. For instance, at this year’s event Greater Nevada employees created a talent show in which performances demonstrated how management and staff have worked together to help the credit union’s members during these challenging economic times. In addition, Greater Nevada’s local business partners participated in the event by donating 80 items for raffle drawings conducted throughout the day.
Loss Mitigation Representative Becky Butler, who works at the credit union’s Reno offices, said, “As a new employee attending my first annual training and recognition event, I was impressed by the way everyone pitched in to make the it a success. How many companies have their CEO dedicate an entire day to ensure employees know the vision of the company and take time to recognize their employees in front of their peers? And to see the hidden talents of my co-workers during the talent show was icing on the cake.”
