Announcing Greater Nevada's BOD Candidates

Greater Nevada Credit Union’s Board of Directors is comprised of seven members who volunteer their time and experience to
oversee the management of your credit union. Directors are elected to serve three-year terms, which expire on a rotating basis.
This year, two Director positions are available and Greater Nevada is pleased to announce the three candidates who are seeking to fill those seats:
GNCU Board of Director Candidate

Vernon Dalton (Incumbent)

Member: Over 30 years

Residence: Wells, NV

Occupation:Owner of Dalton Livestock

Education: Attended the University of Utah and Utah State Agricultural College

Statement: I would like to continue as a member of the GNCU Board of Directors, keeping it strong and serving its members. I have owned and managed the ranch operation in Clover Valley for over 45 years before turning it over to my son. I am an incorporator of the Wells Rural Electric Cooperative, established in 1961, bringing central station energy to northeastern Elko County and was President of the Board for 40 years. I have served as a director of the Consumer Federation of America for 35 years and director of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association for 23 years.

GNCU Board of Director Candidate

Travis Lee

Member: 7 years

Residence: Minden, NV

Occupation: Douglas County Community Services Manager

Education: Masters in Educational Leadership in Higher Administration

Statement: As a fifth generation Nevadan and living in rural Nevada throughout the state, I feel my ability to work with communities with diverse financial needs is one of my greatest strengths. The excellence we expect from our representatives as they assist communities with their financial goals is critical and should be dynamic and cutting edge.

GNCU Board of Director Candidate

Jon Steele (incumbent)

Member: 20 years

Residence: Reno, NV

Occupation: Managing Member of Steele & Associates, LLC

Education: California State University, Fresno, Bachelor of Science, Business Administration, Accounting

Statement: What an exciting and fast three years this has been since first joining the GNCU Board of Directors. I am a Certified Public Accountant, and I feel that my business, financial, and accounting background will continue to add value to both the credit union and the Board. As Nevada continues its strong growth, it is important that we continue to steer GNCU in a direction that capitalizes on these opportunities while continuing to care for our members. It is a great responsibility to be a part of this family and to maintain the policies that help our members Live Greater.

The deadline for submitting an application for candidacy has passed. However, GNCU members who want to be candidates may use the petition process to be considered for the ballot. That process requires submitting the following information to the Nominating Committee no later than January 19, 2018:

  • A valid petition containing the signatures of at least 500 GNCU members who are eligible to vote in the upcoming Board election;* and
  • A statement of qualifications, biographical data and other required information.

Please call (775) 886-1304 for additional information and details regarding the petition process. Ballots will be mailed in early February 2018. On March 13, 2018 at 7:00 p.m., Greater Nevada will hold its Annual Meeting at 451 Eagle Station Lane (former headquarters branch) in Carson City, where the results of the Board of Directors election will be announced. All members are welcome to attend.
