Thanks to our Congressman
Let's Give Thanks to our Nevada Congressman
There’s a reason for the more than 57,000 Greater Nevada and 110 million credit union members nationwide to celebrate. Thanks to the leadership and support of Nevada Congressman Mark Amodei (R-NV), on September 13, 2017 the House of Representatives adopted the Amodei-Aguilar Amendment by voice vote. This action preserved the independence of credit unions’ federal regulator and deposit insurer, thereby saving consumers and credit union members from a new, hidden tax. The effect of that amendment allows credit unions to continue doing what we do best:
- Providing valuable, favorably priced financial services to you and your fellow members;
- Delivering impactful financial education; and
- Serving the needs of our communities.
Congressman Amodei took bipartisan leadership on this issue at a time when the parties in Washington, D.C. seem to have little they can agree on. He took a significant political risk in doing so simply because it was the right thing to do for his constituents and American consumers. He reached across the aisle to Congressman Pete Aguilar (D-CA), a fellow credit union supporter, to introduce this legislation. They effectively worked together to ensure its passage, even though there was considerable pressure applied by others to drop the matter. The result is that the Amodei-Aguilar Amendment helped prevent a legislative shift in direction that would have ultimately harmed credit union members by needlessly raising costs on the financial cooperatives they own.
We at Greater Nevada Credit Union stand with nearly 6,000 other credit unions across America in applauding Congressman Amodei for his leadership on this issue. We also encourage you to email Congressman Amodei’s office via his website (amodei.house.gov) to thank him for his courage in standing up for credit unions, our members and consumers across the nation.

Thank you, Congressman Amodei for introducing the Amodei-Aguilar Amendment to protect the independent integrity of the National Credit Union Administration, the agency that regulates and insures the majority of America’s nearly 6,000 credit unions, including Greater Nevada Credit Union.
