Seeking Applications for Open Board of Directors Positions

Join us in shaping the future of Nevada’s largest credit union! Greater Nevada Credit Union (GNCU) seeks passionate individuals to serve on our esteemed Board of Directors. As a Board member, you’ll have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the strategic direction of our credit union and oversee its general activities. This is a volunteer position with no compensation, but we invest in your training and active involvement in the credit union industry.

We have two positions available on the Board of Directors for three-year terms beginning in March 2024.

GNCU Board members allow our organization to remain relevant and impactful in the communities and individuals we serve across Nevada. GNCU is consistently recognized for our commitment to excellent customer service, being recognized as one of the best employers in the state, providing impactful products and services, and ensuring that our community efforts are aligned to the needs of our members.

Highlights From Our 2022 Efforts Included

  • Earning Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) status. With $1.8 billion in assets, GNCU is the only CDFI-certified depository institution with headquarters in the state of Nevada. Certification allows us to now apply for grants available only to CDFI-certified organizations aimed at helping low-income people and communities lacking adequate access to affordable financial products and services.
  • GNCU provided scholarships to 30 students in 2022. We have awarded a total of $669,000 in scholarships to 432 recipients since the program began in 2000.
  • GNCU employees volunteered nearly 5,000 hours in 2022 to charitable organizations.
  • GNCU actively promotes educational events and online webinars on ways to take control of your finances throughout Nevada. We spearheaded 51 financial education events in 2022 across 23 organizations with 2,404 participants.

Key Responsibilities of GNCU’s Board of Directors

The Board of Directors is responsible for, among other things:

  • Managing the business and affairs of GNCU.
  • Hiring and evaluating the President/CEO and determining compensation.
  • Reviewing and approving GNCU policies.
  • Approving GNCU’s annual operating budget.
  • Reviewing the Audit Committee’s annual report.
  • Reviewing and approving long-term strategic objectives.
  • Monitoring operations for compliance with the law, GNCU’s bylaws, GNCU’s policies, and principles of safety and soundness.

Board Qualifications

The Board consists of seven directors. Members in good standing may apply to be considered as a Board candidate and appear on a ballot voted on by all GNCU members in good standing. To be considered for nomination as a director, a GNCU member must:

  • Be the primary member on a GNCU Share Savings account.
  • Maintained membership for at least 12 months to be eligible.
  • Possess knowledge, experience, and interest pertinent to the credit union’s future. This could include finance, law, marketing, risk management, and community development.
  • Be honest, of high integrity, and willing to act solely for the interests and benefit of the credit union and its membership.
  • Be able to devote the time necessary to attend monthly meetings and other functions, including some overnight out-of-town travel.
  • Maintain a solid personal financial history, which includes consistently keeping any credit union accounts and loans in good standing.
  • The deadline to submit an application is October 13, 2023.
  • The Nominating Committee evaluates all submitted applications and prepares a slate of candidates. The candidates participate in a general election by the membership, which will be held from February to March 2024.
