The National Credit Union Administration is the independent federal agency that charters and supervises federal credit unions. NCUA, backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. government, operates the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF) insuring the savings of 90 million account holders in all federally insured credit unions.
As a Greater Nevada member, your savings are federally insured up to at least $250,000 at no additional cost to you by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA).
NOTICE OF CHANGES IN TEMPORARY NCUA INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR TRANSACTION ACCOUNTS
As of December 31, 2012 the temporary "unlimited coverage" provided by the NCUA has expired. All "noninterest-bearing transaction accounts" are still insured up to $250,000 and is available to members under the NCUA general share insurance rules.
The term "noninterest-bearing transaction account" includes a traditional share draft account (or demand deposit account) on which the insured credit union pays no interest or dividend. It does not include any transaction account that may earn interest or dividends, a negotiable order of withdrawal ("NOW") account, money-market deposit account, and Interest on Lawyers Trust Account ("IOLTA"), even if share drafts may be drawn on the account. The Helping Families Save Their Homes Act includes a provision that extends the $250,000 insurance limit for credit union members' deposits through December 31, 2013. Furthermore; the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform Act, extends the $250,000 insurance limit for credit union member's deposits indefinitely.
