Greater Nevada Credit Union is proud to support the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) to bring that passion to the students, faculty, and staff to broaden the University’s impacts across Nevada. We help numerous programs and events spanning the University, and provide students with quality financial products and educational services.
Our Reno: University branch is conveniently located across Virginia St. from the heart of campus, and UNR students, faculty, staff, and alumni also have access to special offers through our Greater Perks program. Members all get access to specially discounted football and basketball tickets to cheer on the Nevada Wolf Pack.
A Greater Partnership with the Wolf Pack Marching Band
Since 2012, GNCU has partnered with the University of Nevada Wolf Pack Marching Band to raise over $416,000 to help with the band’s needs for instruments, scholarships, travel and other expenses.
You can be a part of making this the greatest year yet! We’re matching up to $15,000 in total contributions to the Band through their online fundraiser. These funds are used to support the Band as they work to keep athletes, students, and the community marching forward. If you’re able, please consider a donation by clicking the button below.
Supporting the NevadaFIT Program
Beginning the journey for a college degree can be a daunting task. Moving out from childhood homes, meeting new people and taking on fresh responsibilities are a lot to handle for college freshmen. That’s why we’ve partnered with the University’s NevadaFIT program to give incoming freshmen the foundations they need to be successful students.
NevadaFIT is a one-credit, academic program for first-year students designed to help ease the transition from high school to college. The NevadaFIT program brings more than 3,500 new students and about 500 student mentors to campus the week before the fall semester begins. NevadaFIT spans nine colleges and schools and more than 40 majors. Working in “Packs” of six to seven students led by an undergraduate mentor, students focus on academic readiness and skills to be successful college students, become acquainted with faculty, form study groups, live on campus and experience immersion into the campus community. This strategy has been proven to give students a sense of belonging and increases retention and graduation rates for all participants, including Pell-eligible, first-generation and minority students. Since its inception in 2013, NevadaFIT has helped increase the University’s average one-year retention rate by seven to ten percent.

Special Olympics Nevada
Greater Nevada Credit Union proudly supports Special Olympics Nevada (SONV). Our team members regularly volunteer and conduct fundraising for special events. SONV provides training, athletic competitions, and education to adults and children with intellectual disabilities, allowing everyone the chance to shine.
Aces Stealing Bases for SONV
GNCU has teamed up with the Reno Aces to promote stealing for a good cause through GNCU’s Steals for SONV! Every time an Aces player successfully stole a base, GNCU donated $250 to benefit SONV.
In the 2023 season, Aces players snagged 36 bases, so we donated $9,000 towards these incredible athletes!
Western Nevada College
Greater Nevada Credit Union has been a long-time supporter of Western Nevada College (WNC) through sponsoring many different programs and fundraisers, awarding scholarships to GNCU members attending WNC, and participating in the WNC Foundation.
Our Carson City: North Carson branch is conveniently located just minutes from the heart of the Carson City campus, and WNC students, faculty, staff, and alumni also have access to special offers through our Greater Perks program.
Greater Driving in Northern Nevada
GNCU is also the official sponsor of the Greater Driving in Northern Nevada program at WNC. The program goals include promoting safe driving among new drivers in Northern Nevada through the WNC Driver’s Ed program, offering exclusive student benefits, and providing financial education to students regarding responsible car ownership.
Students who successfully complete the WNC Drivers Education program can receive free gifts and the opportunity for partial reimbursement toward their course cost. Students who complete the Driver Ed program may also participate in an essay contest to earn one of three $500 scholarships for WNC. Talk to your Driver’s Ed program instructor for details.
