Greater Nevada Credit Union Collects Over 1,200 Books For Spread The Word Nevada

Greater Nevada Credit Union (GNCU) partnered with Spread the Word Nevada to support youth literacy across the state through its annual community book drive.
Throughout April, GNCU collected new and gently used children’s books at branches across Washoe County, Carson Valley, Lyon County, and Elko. Community members and employees came together to support the effort, resulting in 1,277 books donated to Spread the Word Nevada.
Spread the Word Nevada is a nonprofit organization focused on advancing early childhood literacy by providing books and reading resources to children who may not otherwise have access. In addition to book distribution, the organization supports literacy programming that includes family engagement, early learning support, and one-on-one mentoring to help children build strong reading skills.
“One of Greater Nevada’s four pillars is financial well-being and inclusion, and our partnership with Spread the Word means that children have access to books that they might not otherwise have,” said Veronica Gomez, Vice President of Digital Member Experience at Greater Nevada Credit Union. “Spread the Word Nevada, ensures that children have the tools and resources they need to become strong readers. We love that this effort supports both early learning and family engagement, and that it reaches kids from birth through fifth grade, including chapter books for older readers.”
The annual drive ran from April 1 through April 30 and encouraged donations of children’s books for ages birth through fifth grade. The variety of donations helps ensure children have access to stories that reflect different interests and reading levels.
GNCU employees also supported the initiative through collection, sorting, and delivery efforts, reinforcing the credit union’s ongoing commitment to community engagement and volunteerism.
