Greater Nevada Credit Union Hosts Fraud Prevention Workshops To Help Protect Nevada Consumers

As fraud and scams continue to evolve, Greater Nevada Credit Union (GNCU) is committed to helping Nevadans stay informed and protect themselves from financial crime.
In recognition of Elder Abuse Awareness Month, GNCU recently hosted two free Fraud Prevention Workshops in Carson City and Reno. Approximately 55 community members attended the events, learning how to recognize common scams, safeguard their personal information, and respond if they become the target of fraud.
The workshops featured presentations from GNCU fraud and cybersecurity experts Patty Chang, Senior Vice President of Risk and Operations, and Stephen Root, Vice President of Information Security, along with David Bailey, Esq., from the Carson City Public Defender’s Office. Together, the presenters shared practical tips on topics including impersonation scams, phishing emails and text messages, identity theft, cybersecurity best practices, and the growing role of artificial intelligence in fraud.
“Fraudsters continue to change their tactics, but education remains one of the strongest tools we have to help people protect themselves,” said Patty Chang, Senior Vice President of Risk and Operations at Greater Nevada Credit Union. “Our goal is to empower our members and communities with the knowledge they need to recognize scams, ask questions, and take action before becoming a victim.”
The workshops also generated local media attention, with Chang appearing on News 4 to discuss common scam tactics and share fraud prevention tips with viewers during Elder Abuse Awareness Month.
As fraud schemes continue to become more sophisticated, GNCU plans to host additional fraud prevention workshops in the future to help educate and empower communities across Nevada.
