Greater Nevada Credit Union Supports Student Launch at Great Reno Balloon Race 2025
The skies over Reno will once again fill with color this September as the Great Reno Balloon Race returns to Rancho San Rafael Regional Park from September 5–7, 2025. Known as the world’s largest free hot-air ballooning event, the race draws more than 100 balloons and thousands of spectators each year.
One of the most beloved traditions of the event is the Tissue Paper Balloon Launch, where Washoe County 5th graders build and fly miniature balloons made from colorful tissue paper. This year, the program expands to a two-day event, giving even more students the opportunity to participate.
On Friday, September 5, volunteers from Greater Nevada Credit Union, along with partners Tesla, Safe Routes to School, and United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra, will be on the launch field to guide students and help ensure their balloons take flight.
This hands-on STEM activity not only sparks creativity and curiosity but also builds community connections. Greater Nevada Credit Union is proud to support this uplifting experience for local students as part of its ongoing commitment to education and community engagement.
